CAT 320 vs CAT 323: which used excavator?
The 320 is the most traded used excavator in the world; the 323 sits a step up in power. The choice is about the job and the price, not the number.
The CAT 320 and CAT 323 are both 20-plus-ton class crawler excavators, and buyers often compare them. The 320 line (320B/C/D/GC) is the single most traded used excavator worldwide, with the widest parts support and the strongest resale. The 323 is a later, slightly heavier and more powerful machine.
In used equipment, the generation name matters far less than the actual unit. A clean 320 with honest hours and a strong undercarriage can be better value than a tired 323 with weak hydraulics. Compare cold start, engine sound, hydraulic response, swing, travel, undercarriage and the machine plate on the machine you are buying.
- If parts availability and resale are the priority, the 320 line is the safe choice.
- If you need a little more output on the same footprint, look at the 323 when the condition supports it.
